RON'S STORY
Meatloaf has had a HUGE impact
on my life. I heard him for the first time in 1992, while at a friends
party. He was playing "Paradise by the dashboard lights", and I couldn't
stop laughing. My friend put it on repeat, and for the next hour played it
over and over again. Everyone was screaming along with it, girls singing
their parts, guys signing theirs.
More importantly, it was at that party that I met the girl that would
eventually become my wife. And although we always kept a special place in
our hearts for that song, we would never know how much Meat would influence
our lives from that point on.
We got married in August of 94. We had the wedding rehearsal planned for
three days before the wedding, with a bunch of her relatives flying in from
Japan the day before. Three weeks before the rehersal, we found out that
Meat's "Everything Louder than Everything Else" Tour was coming to Dallas,
THE NIGHT OF THE REHERSAL!! What to do?? We had our wedding rehersal done
in 20 minutes, then took everyone to the concert, instead of the rehersal
dinner. It was two funny watching her Japenese relatives, who spoke very
little english, watching Meat perform.
My wife was killed by a drunk driver 4 months (New Years Eve) after we
were married. At her funeral, we played "Objects in the Rear View Mirror
may Appear closer than they are". And although to this day "Paradise"
brings a saddness, it also makes me smile, because that was, quite possibly,
the happiest time of my life.
