MEAT LOAF: GREATEST HITS TOUR 1999
BELFAST, 18th MARCH 1999: KINGS HALL
A REVIEW, by Craig Wootton
AT LAST
Well, this was the moment I have been waiting for, after four years of listening to his music only through c.d.'s and seeing him only on MTV and VH-1, I had finally got the chance to see him live.
I still couldn't believe I was going to see him. All the queuing up was worth it. After standing outside for two hours in the cold, I was right at the front. The support band were OK, although the King"s Hall was only starting to fill up. After they went off, I looked around me, the place was packed. Within half an hour, the place was full. The crowds were going wild. I felt so happy that the place was packed, and that people turned out to support Meat and all his hard work over the years.
INTRODUCTION
All the lights went off, and sound effects like something out of Jurassic Park was all that could be heard over the speakers. The stage didn’t look to be big at all. There were no instruments, and the stage was tiny. Something big was about to happen. And then, there it was. The place went up in cheers, everyone shouting "Meat Loaf, Meat Loaf." Then he came out from the side of the stage. I couldn’t believe I was actually looking at him. He was looking so well, so much thinner than he did a few years ago. His new, modern short hair cut only added to how greater he was looking. He simply sat down, on a rock/chair like thing, and started to sing home by Now/ No matter what. His voice blew me away. It was so strong, so loud and powerful. I was still trying to believe I was actually looking at the God of Rock. Then the curtain fell, and the stage became alive. It was so big. Parts were raised my stairways, and the whole thing was blue by the lights. The rigging of the speakers and all the lights was so tall. I have never seen anything like it. The sound system was great.
LET THE SHOW BEGIN
Everyone was playing a percussion instrument. Meat got handed a pair of Shaky things, Patti was playing a large drum thing, the guitars were banging something and so was Pearl. I wondered what song this was. Then the guitars came in. Damon lead them so brilliantly. But where had Meat gone. There he was, he had stepped of to get his guitar. All four guitarists now playing. Kasim was bouncing all over the stage,. This was the new intro. To "Life is a Lemon" this was followed by Dead ringer for love, and loads of other songs. I can’t even remember the order, the songs were so great, guitars were brilliant. There were so many songs.
PARADISE
Then a big glittery curtain fell from the skies, stretching across the whole stage. Meat words were, "Do go away, I’ll be right back." Then I could have sworn there were two Meat Loafs. As soon as he went into the curtain, he came out again, all dressed up in a tux. How did he do that. Paradise was played, and the role playing went on in front of the curtain between Meat and Patti. After the Phil Rizzuto play by play part, the arguments started. It was great. The best I have heard yet. It lasted for ages. Meat was great, and kept mocking Patti. It ended with Patti laughing "You ain’t go nothing to hit under the belt." The place went wild.
ACOUSTIC ENCORE
After that, the stage was cleared, and stools were brought out. Meat introduced each and every member of the band one by one. They came on and took their place on their stools. He asked what song they crowd wanted, and we all shouted all different songs. Finally he said he would play "For crying out loud" which he said he has not played since New York of 1979. I don't know if this was true or not, but it added to the atmosphere. He played it really slowly, and with only a piano accompaniment. Near the end, Damon and others came in with slow guitars, and it was excellent.
MAKE WAY FOR THE DAUGHTER
After that, he asked for more requests, and he played some song by the Rolling Stones. He then played Midnight at the lost and found. All these songs were played acoustically, and they came of brilliantly. When he asked again for another request, the guy beside my shouted "Get your daughter to sing" Meat heard him and asked "What did you say!" the guy then shouted "I love your daughter" Meat asked "have you got any fucking money?" the crowd went wild. The guy was wearing some strange shirt, to which Meat questioned. The guy jumped on stage. Bouncers jumped to pull him off, but Meat, calm as he was, simply let him come up. The guy got up and went over to Meat’s daughter. And hugged her. Meat quickly got up and pulled him off and set him down beside himself and the piano. Meat said his daughter was going to sing a solo with no instruments, and the guy could sing with her the second verse. She sang Mercedes Benz and the place went wild. She has such a great voice.
|
|
THE ENDING
After that, they started to play "You took the words right out my mouth". The guy got the opportunity to lead the ending bit to the audience. While this was going on he stage was reforming behind him, the stools were taken away, and Bat out of hell was started. The guy was lead of stage, but not until he was cheered again form the crowd. Bat out of hell was played, and well, what can I say. After the thousands of times I have heard it, it never sounds the same as it did then. It was excellent. Damon really did excel himself during the motor cycle bit in the middle, using the distortion lever to play the guitar. It was excellent. The all of a sudden, a giant bat was released from the back of the stage, with the eyes shinning out over the audience. A giant rubber bat, it was so excellent. That was the last song played, and Meat and the rest of the band went home.
The whole concert was amazing, I had never expected it to be as good. Everyone was talking about it after. When I went into school the next day, everyone has also heard about how great it was over the radio. The place was full off "Maybe I should have went" Well, lets hope it isn’t to long before the get another chance.

WOW. What else can I say, WOW WOW WOW.
I have grown up with Meatloaf for 22 years, especially with my Dad being a huge fan. When the cahnce came to go to one of his concerts I leapt at the chance. The initial date for the concet was cancelled, and rescheduled for last night (10th May). The place was packed, and I think the fact that the re-scheduled date was so busy gave Meat the incentive to go that extra bit further.
Information about the format of the concert has allready been provided. I would just like to say that Meats performance was like a good wine. He just gets better with age.
The sound system and lighting was amazing, and his choice of songs was amazing.
There was a great comedy element, with Meat interacting with the crowd to a level that he obviously enjoyed. The band were all superb, and Patricia was incredible.
The highlight of the show for me was Paradise by the dashboard light. It must have lasted well over 20 minutes, and was delivered superbly. Bat out of Hell was incredible, with the giant Bat being the icing on the cake.
Becasue the original date was cancelled may be the reason why we appeared to get a little more than some of the other venues. Meat was on stage non-stop for 2 1/2 hours, and did an excellent encore.
I only hope we get a chance to see him again soon. I also hope to see some new material available fo him in concert (ideally on DVD - hear this marketing managers!!)
Meatloaf remains the number one act in the world.

What can I say - it was well worth the wait. My husband bought the tickets for me for Christmas so I had to wait a long time for this one. It was my first Meat Loaf concert after being a fan for some years. The concert from beginning to end was fantastic and my husband, who isn't really a fan - just likes a few songs, has even said we have to get tickets if there's another concert in Glasgow. When Bat Out of Hell was played the whole hall erupted as one - old and young alike going crazy - what a night!

I was originally meant to attend the concert in Glasgow on 4 April 1999 and had paid over £200 on a plane ticket to get there, but I knew it would be worth it. So you can imasgine my disappointment when I arrived at the venue to find out that it had been cancelled. Though I was sorry that he was ill I knew that I couldn't afford to come back to see him at a later date, I was really upset and cried nearly all the way home. However when I heard that he was playing again on the 4th I decided that no matter what I was going to go to see him. Unfortunately everyone else that had gone with me the first time decided that they could not go again. So I went by myself. It was the best decision of my life. He was superb. I cried when he came on stage, as I was so happy to be there and his stage presence was so awesome, he quite literally put goose bumps up and down my spine. After initially feeling a bit nervous about being there by myself I immediately forgot and was
totally overcome by Meatloaf and lost myself completely in the atmosphere. He played all my favourite songs especially 2 out of 3, which was absolutely amazing. Patti was on great form as well, they are a great act together, there is real magnetism between them and she has so much attitude it's brilliant, they really complement each other, as Paradise By the Dashboard Light proved, the banter between them was so funny. Meatloaf seemed very relaxed and displayed just what an excellent performer he is, both as a singer and an all round entertainer, he has a real rapport with an audience. Needless to say I really really really enjoyed the show and it was well worth all the hassle and scrimping and saving and I am only disappointed that I am unable to attend any other concerts. If you ever get an opportunity to see any of his gigs you must take it, I know I will definetly want to see him again. It might have been my first Meatloaf concert, but I hope it will not be my last.
To summarise, the very best nights entertainment I have ever had.
Thank you Meatloaf, hope to see you again.

The concert was well worth waiting for and the people who didn't bother really missed something. Had seen him at B'ham in March and had tickets for the cancelled Cardiff gig so we were really pleased (understatement) to manage to get tickets to Sheffield. Slightly different to B'ham but just as awesome - this guy really knows how to put on a show! Did some different numbers - Summertime Blues, Pearl sang I Love Rock'n'Roll & Meat sang More Than You Deserve. It was again a wonderful experience and we all can't wait for the next tour - now all our kids want to come too!!

The second Rotterdam concert was even better than the first one on april 14th.
Meat was in much better shape and so was his voice. Patti was as good as ever. The concert was not sold out this time but the hole atmosfere was better than two weeks earlier.\
At the first concert I met a girl from Groningen and I hoped she would be at this concert too .....and she was.
She is a real MeatLoaf fan. (Please contact me if you read this).
Meat played for over two hours and the crowd was really singing along with him.
The acoustic session was very good and they played Modern Girl. Pearl sung I love rock'n Roll from Joan Jett & the blackhearts.
Every time I see the gigantic Bat appear on stage I get the shivers down my spine.
The hole is very, very good. We stod at the second row this time so we did see the hole show very good.
I hope that this man (and the band, because they played very good also) never stops rocking, and that he comes back next year.
I would pay twice to see the show again.
Never, ever stop rocking Meat.

Fantastic Show !
He played for 2.5 hours and seemed
to enjoy
every minute of the show.
I have read some reviews before, and
here is what I think was different in Duesseldorf: in the acoustic
set, the don't played 1999 & Mercedes Bemz, but they played
Heartache Tonicht(Eagles) and I Love Rock'n'Roll(Joan Jett).
After Bat out of hell, they returned and played another two covers.
One was Summertime Blues, the other cover I remember from
the beatles and I think it was Rock'n'Roll music - nut I'm not sure
, please correct me.
Again - great show as everytime!!

I went to the concert with 4 of my friends, who had all been to Meat's concert a few years ago. I never knew a concert could be like this (or 'paradise..' for that matter)!
He started with 'no matter what' and went on and on untill 'paradise..', where we went on shouting untill he got back on stage!
The acoustic act was great, hearing the band sing not only the regular songs, but other songs as well, was (to me) proof of their fantastic musical abilities.
I loved the show from beginning to end (especially since i was at the fence, only three feet away from the man!)
To the boys of Picture House: we bought your CD; we liked your singing at the concert and we love it now!
Good going!

The Concert was absolutely amazing. It was
over 2 hours long and I didn't notice the time
passing at all.
Meat was the first person on stage and the first
song that he sang was 'Home by now/No Matter
What'. He sang nearly all the songs on Disc 1 of
'The very best..' except 'Heaven can wait' as far
as I can remember. He also sang 'Dead Ringer', I'd
do anything for Love....', Midnight...' and finished
with 'Bat out of Hell'.
In the Acustic set Pearl sang 'Oh Lord won't you buy
me a Mercedes Benz' on her own. She has an amazing
voice! Meat also sang The Rolling Stones 'Honky Tonk
Woman'.
My favourite part of the Night
was Meat and Patti singing 'Is Nothing Sacred'.
I thought the duet was absolutely fantastic.
The whole concert was just brilliant, what more can
I say!
Cheers,

I went to the Birmingham concert on the 23rd March with my local concert travel company, travelling up from Devon and Wow it was certainly worth the hassles that occured ( coach an hour late, got stuck in traffic, coach driver somehow got hopelessly lost finding the nec car park and I got home afterwards at 3am!)
I saw the last tour and I agree with others that this was certainly even better still. All the other reviews really sum up the show as well as I possibly could. The music was brilliant, the old favourites excecuted fantastically, a great acoustic set and plenty of humour along the way. Patti and the rest of the band were brilliant too. Meat was definitely on top form. All this and good lighting as well.
I've also just attended the show at Wembley on the 28th March and this was only topped by the fact that I had a front row seat which made the show more intimate.
Can't wait for the Cardiff show at which I've got a meet & greet pass.
I didn't intend to go several times as I can't really afford it but it somehow worked out that way but I don't regret a penny spent the show is great value and worth seeing if you can.
I am now totally skint but happy and have still got 1 further show in May to look forward to.

Last Friday I saw Meatloaf at the NEC in Birmingham, UK. It was my first Meatloaf concert, and I have to say it was the most immpressive thing I've ever seen. The band were superb, as was Meat, of course. To be honest I've never really followed Meatloaf that much, but I definatly will now. I think we had some of the best seats in the arena, 16th row, dead centre. Meatloaf is the best performer I've ever seen, and I'll never forget it!

What is there to say! It was my first Meat concert & it kicked ass. He started slowly with Home By Now/No Matter What, backed by a 3D forest scene on a curtain hiding the band from view. After that, he launced into a full on rendition of Life Is A Lemon... complete with stobe effects from behind the curtain, showing the silhouettes of the band. The curtain then dropped and on went the show. From there on it was just uphill. From Rock & Roll Dreams Come Through to Bat Out Of Hell via Paradise..., Dead Ringer For Love, and an acoustic set which included a cover of the Monkees' Last Train To Clarksville. And I must say, the sight and sound of 6,400 people all stomping for more after Paradise... and then singing and clapping along to Bat Out Of Hell is just unforgettable.

I attended the concert in Leuven yesterday. It was GREAT as ever. Although
Meat clearly still suffers from his recent illness, since he often seemed
annoyed that his voice didn't sound the way he wanted it to, his performance
was superb. I'm not going to give a full review of the concert, since there
are other people that have done that already, but I can say that everyone
should get tickets NOW if they haven't got them yet.
Although Picture House was mentioned as support act, they haven't played any
of their own songs. It was just 2 hours of Meat Loaf grandeur. The way
Meat got on stage was extremely good. I know he makes it a sport to get on
stage unnoticed, so I was on guard, but he still managed to slip on without
me noticing (no, I won't tell what to look for). He sang most of the songs
from the best of album, although I was a bit disappointed that he only sang
one song from WTTN (I'd lie for you). He has so many great songs on his
repertoire, of course. The part where the crowd could make requests was
very funny, although I'm having trubble believing that it was unrehearsed,
nevertheless, it was great. Paradise was, as always, a great performance
from Meat and Patricia.
The crowd was the only thing lame about the concert. They never seemed to
get into the mood. I think this was partly Meat's doing, also, because
there was very little time between the songs, so he didn't give them the
time to get involved and it all seemed a bit rushed. By the time the crowd
finally got singing, jumping, clapping, etc. he was singing Bat out of
Hell, which was the last song. I understand that most concerts in other
countries have a seated crowd, which is different from what we are used to
(and had) here. Maybe this was also part of the reason why the concert
wasn't focussed on stirring up the crowd.
The least I can say is that the whole performance was a very emotional
experience for me. I still get shivers running down my spine when the first
tunes of I'd do anything for love come floating out of the speakers and I
get goosepumps when the drums accompany 'I want my money back' at the start
of Life is a Lemon. It's an experience I'll treasure forever and I'm praying
it wasn't his last concert tour !
NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, STOP ROCKIN' !!!

I flew to London for the Wembley concert on 4/1. I was in heaven as have been a fan since the begining but never had the opportunity to go to a concert. Not only did it work out that i could go to England from Kentucky but i had a chance for the meet and greet. Imagine my excitement when i walked up to the arena in my RHPS Eddy jacket ready to meet my idol. Imagine my disappointment when i saw the notification of Meat's illness and the cancellaton of the show. i stood there and cried!! I was so sorry he was sick but i was soooo disappointed. I only hope for a chance to see him in the U.S. soon!! In the meantime I'm listening to my tapes and dreamimg of that day.

The Ahoy stadium in Rotterdam was sold out that evening.
We were lucky to have tickets for this concert and we stood at the 6th row.
First there was this Irish band called Picture House and they were playing very good.
But we waiting for Meat of course. Suddenly the lights gone out and the crowd was going crazy.
The sound of thunder was rolling and lightning was striking..... As from nowhere there was MeatLoaf on stage singing Home by now/No matter what.
The second song was Life is a lemon and we saw the band. From this moment on the show went on for almost 3 hours. They were having fun and so did we.
In the middle part of the show there was an acoustic session and Pearl sung Mercedes-Benz.
Paradise by the dasboardlight was very amusing and Bat out of Hell was awesome. I knew what was coming but it was still very impressing to see this huge Bat appear on stage.
On april 27th there is a second concert in Rotterdam and I want to go there too.
Now I'm going to buy a ticket..

The first meat concert i ever saw, but it really lived up to my very high expectations, including the paradise act (and again in a different form)
Started at 9.00 pm and it lasted till 11.15 pm, and the encore started about 10 past 10.
The acoustic intermezzo was very good (even though the spontanious "name a song and we play it"was well rehearsed, reading other reviews, 1999, honky tonk women, Janis Joplin).
Bat out of hell was tremendous with the real big bat in the back of the stage.
we've got an extra encore in the form of Johnny B. Goode

Hi!! I went to the first of two Holland concerts and first of all I have to say
his voice was great!!! I was in panic when I read meat's health status, but the concert wasn't
cancelled!!!! He was in great shape and the concert was sold out (10000 people!!)...He played all the songs which are listed in the reviews above and I especially
liked the acoustic set (honkie tonkie woman, 1999, oh darling and two out of three ain't bad) The show ended with Jonhny be good!!!!! (just like the old days!!)
The only thing the audience would have liked to hear was heaven can wait..but he didn't play it...But I loved every
second of the concert which was my third...And I will go again on the 27th of april, also in the Ahoy. If there's anybody from Holland reading this review please
contact my on mzannoni2hotmail.com and maybe we can join forces on the 27th of april concert!!!!
Is there anybody with backstage tickest for 27th april??!! please contact me!!
Thank you meat for one of the best days of my life!!!

Hello every one, just thought I'd jot a few
thoughts down. I went to my first Meatloaf concert at the age of 31,
nothing could have prepared me for the experience. What have I been
missing
for the last 20 years? I took my wife to see the the man himself in
Belfast on the 18th March, PictureHouse opened the show they were not bad
for a first act, I'll probably go back to see themin the summer when they
come back for their own gig.
He even had a bloke up from the
audiance on stage with him, David, who was to be seen walking along the
streets afterwards weaving in and out of the traffic pouring out home
from
the King's Hall, high as a kite, he couldn't have been higher if he had
been tripping out. If you ever get the chance to see the show don't let
anything stand in your way, at the moment I'm trying to see if I can get
to see it again on this tour somewhere....well we all have to have our
dreams don't we?
All the best,
Tony

Hi all,
Well last Saturday night I went to the Meat concert in the RDS in
Dublin, Ireland. I got to meet the great man before the show, and
everything I wanted to say to him went out of my head the minute I saw
him. I got a picture with him though and he signed my copy of 'The Very
Best of Meatloaf'.
The support act started just after 7.15pm and they were 'Picture
House'.
They are quite good and got the crowd going. They were on for over 30
minutes. Then a group of 3 young boys 9(10/11 years old) came on. Meat
had seen them busking on Grafton street the day before and thought they
were great so asked them to sing at the concert. They sang 3 songs. The
crowd really got behind them, it was really great to see these three
kids reaction to singing in front of 8 or so thousand people and all
these people were giving them a load of support.
Meat finally came on about 8.30pm and sang until 10.50pm. The time went
amazingly quickly. Meat was the first person on stage and the first
song
that he sang was 'Home by now/No Matter What'. He sang nearly all the
songs on Disc 1 of 'The very best..' except 'Heaven can wait' as far
as
I can remember. He also sang 'Dead Ringer', I'd do anything for
Love....', Midnight...' and finished with 'Bat out of Hell'. Does he
always finish with that? He has done in the 3 concerts I've seen him
in.
He was in great form throughout the concert and there was the usual
good
banter between himself and Patti. Pearl sang 'Oh Lord won't you buy me
a
Mercedes Benz' on her own. She has an amazing voice! Meat also sang The
Rolling Stones 'Honky Tonk Woman'.
As someone else said there is a nice surprise when they sing
'Paradise...'. You'll just have to wait and see that one though. :-)
I bought the Program/Brochure at the concert and there are some really
great photo's in it, especially of Meat and his family. The back cover
has a really cute picture of Meat when he was 4/5 years old, with
wings.
I also bought a 'The Very best of....' T-shirt and a Meatloaf badge. I
am now officially broke.... LOL
I caught a cold waiting for a taxi home from the concert, and spent all
day yesterday in bed, so I'm sorry I didn't get this report to you as
promised yesterday.
The concert is really something to look forward to and I think I may
just go to one of the American ones when they are announced latter on
this year.
Talk to you all soon,
Edel

Hi all,
id just like to say that the gig in dublin was worth every penny. To hear
the banter between Meat and Patti in paradise by the dashboard light
brought back the memories of the welcome to the neighbourhood tour, my
first time at a meatloaf concert. the highlight for me was the part where
he started taking requests from the audience in an almost unplugged
sesion. I would have gone to the other concert also but only got tickets
for one gig and ran out of money but i bought the T shirt and the
Programme. im not even going to wear the shirt im going to frame it!!!!
for those who havent seen him get tickets now !!!! if i get to the
states this year i am definitly going to get tickets at one of those
gigs, thats how good i think the concert was.

I am from Belfast, so I went to the concert. It was my first ever meat concert, and it was excellent. He played for 2hr 20mins. He finished with about 30mins of playing acoustically at the front of the stage surrounded by he band members. The songs he played were all requests. Someone requested the rolling stones, and he played it. He then played for crying out loud, which he said he has never sung since March 1979 in New York City. It was excellent. He then played 2 ain't of 3 and You took the words right out of my mouth. When he was taking the requests, the guy in front of my shouted "Get you daughter to sing." to which Meat loaf ask what did he say, and the guy said "I love your daughter, I wanna marry her." Meat replied, "Have you got any f*%£ing money, what the hell kinda shirt is that?" he was wearing a bright yellow shirt with flowers on it, and the guy jumped across the barrier, and got on stage with Meat. There was a rush of bouncers to pull him of, but Meat allowed him up. The guy went over to his daughter various times, but Meat kept pulling him back, shouting at him, it was funny. He then sung with his daughter and the band, and leading the ending of You took the words...... It was and excellent concert. Paradise was funny. The best ever. It had Meat and Patti dressed in a tux, and her in a wedding dress, to which Meat looked confused., It was hilarious. The ending bit lasted for about 5mins. Also, there is a new starting to Life is a Lemon, this was the second song he sang after Home by now/No matter what, and started with every member of the band simply banging some precession instrument. It was like some tribe ritual dance. After meat got his guitar on, it got louder and louder, and then the guitars cam in. It was excellent.
Anyway, keep sending loads of mail to the list, and check out my site.

Meat Loaf - Birmingham NEC 23rd March
Ok, here goes for my memories of last night, sorry if I missed a song or detail out......
Show started about 7:30 with a young Irish support band called Picture House, they were good and left the stage at about 8 PM. The lights went down at about 8:25 to the satisfaction of an almost full arena eagerly anticipating the show to follow. Alone on stage with a back drop of a darkened forest on the curtain behind, Meat started the show with Home by now and No matter what, great voice and good sound let the crowd get into the mood and know he was going to give it his all as usual.
Down came the sheet with the band going straight into Life is a Lemon with Meat doing his usual to get the crowd into his control. This was followed by Dead ringer which gave us the first evenings sample of Patti who as usual was in fine voice. The next few songs flowed with very little talk or time to breath in between, I lost track but I think the list was I'd Lie for You, Rock and Roll Dreams, Is nothing sacred, I'd do anything for Love and Paradise by the Dashboard Light. The was one song I did not recognise earlier on, anyone who was there know?? (Something about lawyers) Paradise had a new act in the middle and Meat had some trouble with a curtain that failed to fall on cue - to the audience amusement he bought out the stage manager to explain. Following the end of Paradise they all took a bow and said their thank yous before returning for the longest encore I have ever seen.
As the crowd settled down the band all came to the front of the stage for introductions from Meat and an acoustic session which had some requests from the audience. They did part or all of the following songs; Midnight at the Lost and Found, Modern Girl, 1999 (prince), Honky-tonk woman, Pearl sang a Janice Joplin song solo, Patricia sang part of another (sorry forgot what!), Two out of three ain't bad and finished the session with You took the Words right out of my Mouth. As Meat finished the song with the usual crowd interaction the band reformed at their stage positions for Bat out of Hell as the finale. Show lasted just over 2 hours.
A fantastic night which no review can really capture but perfect in all ways, to all those that can't get to see the show, sorry but you really are missing an occasion. Me, I have another two to attend :-}.

It was the first ever of hopefully heaps of MEAT LOAF concerts that I'll get to see.
But How come the most Important Person of the night only got two costume changes when fellow singer Patti Russo got heaps?
I think that MEAT LOAF is SMART and because of him ROCK 'N' ROLL with never die!

Went last night, what a gig, first time I saw meat was in 1982 at the nec and it just gets better, what can I say the opening was excellent, and thankfully the boyzone myth is now being put to rights, lemon was just awesome and bat was as amazing as it was the first time I saw it live, merchandising is as good as ever, especially the tour programs. Paradise has now evolved from the last gig I saw with a slightly different slant and dialogue, but still as good as ever, what more can i say, a good time was had by all. Just keep doing it

I've been to many of Meats' concerts, but this was by far the very best. The atmosphere was electric from the opening number of Home By Now/No Matter What, right through to the timeless Bat Out Of Hell and all the other favourites. Once again I was lucky enough to be at the front, just a few feet from the stage, which just added to the euphoria of the whole experience, being so close to the band, being able to see their expressions made me feel as if I was involved. It truely was a night to remember. My only sadness is the fact that I couldn't attend any of the other dates. Roll on the next tour!

From the atmospheric opening number
"Home by Now/No Matter What" to the classic "Bat out of Hell" finale the enthusiastic crowd were taken on a wild, rollercoaster journey through the great man's biggest hits.
Two hours of non-stop entertainment left everyone wanting more.
A MEAT LOAF concert is more than just a musical experience:with superb lighting and sound effects,
interspersed with a fair sprinkling of laughter,it is a theatrical production- a treat for everyone!

Just one word to describe this... WOW!!!!!
This is my third time seeing Meat in concert
and I would have to say it's the best of
of the lot.
From the opening with Should've been Home by now/No Matter What,
followed by the ass kickin Life is a Lemon...,
this was over two hours of Meat at his best.
Paradise was as good as ever and the acoustic
set was great, especially to hear
Honky Tonk Woman.
A great night. Follow Meat's advice and
Never Stop Rockin!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely awesome!
I first saw meatloaf back in 1985 at birmingham n e c, and he was fantastic then but he's even better now what can i say the best simply got better.
when he sang bat out of hell it took me back to when he sang it in birmingham (when i was 17)and just like then i completely lost all my inabitions and sang every word.
I'm not quite sure how meat does it but he definatly has some type of power to captivate the audience.
well done meatloaf keep up the good work, and see you at sheffield arena on 11 April 99.

This was the 4th time I have been to a Meat concert - I'm not sure concert is the right word as Meat is such a great all round entertainer. Most has been said in reviews above but on this night he told of his early work as a folk singer with songs such as "Tom Dooley" - I got the impression the audience would have loved to sing along to this!
The concerts just get better with a great variety of style and content topped off with a super sense of humour.
Great value - Keep on Rockin'

"What is there to say! It was my first Meat concert & it
kicked ass. He started slowly with Home By Now/No Matter
What, backed by a 3D forest scene on a curtain hiding the
band from view. After that, he launced into a full on
rendition of Life Is A Lemon... complete with strobe effects
from behind the curtain, showing the silhouettes
of the band. The curtain then dropped and on
went the show. From there on it was just uphill.
From Rock & Roll Dreams Come Through to Bat Out Of Hell
via Paradise..., Dead Ringer For Love, and an acoustic set
which included a cover of the Monkees' "Last Train To
Clarksville". And I must say, the sight and sound of
6,400 people all stomping for more after Paradise... and
then singing and clapping along to Bat Out Of Hell is
just unforgettable.
Never Stop Rockin'!!!!!!!"

"I went to the Aberdeen concert last night and it was
absolutely brilliant. Meat and the band were on top
form and were on stage for approx 2 hours.I won't
spoil it for those of you going to the other concerts
but
PARADISE was very funny and was followed by
the whole band sitting up the
front of the stage
doing an acoustic set.
I travelled all the way from
London to see this and it was well worth
it, especially as i was standing right at the front
in line with Meat.
I can't wait
for the other concerts i'm going to(13 and rising!),the next
being Birmingham on 26 March.
Keep Rockin
Donna
